Excerpted from the memoirs of Dirk Blackwood
…We soon found ourselves face to face with some sort of terrible ogrey thing and without even allowing us a chance to parlay, it set it’s hounds upon us. After taking a thorough beating from the muscle, this creature loosed a terrible howl, like a terrified child, or Farfus when it gets dark. I’m not an expert on ogres or anything, but I think this one was still young and just doing what young ogres do. I tried to convince our orc to spare it’s life, but when his blood gets up there’s little you can do. Sure the cat is a cute, but we wouldn’t condemn a human for hunting. Beasts, of course, are slightly further down the list of sentience than humanoids, and the life of the more sentient being should always be more important.
Fortunately, NethðÌΔæýian BËÛåýΦ‡ of House Pretentious prevailed with a cooler head and allowed the little monster to escape with its life and its dogs, to the chagrin both Kali and Tooth.
Afterwards, we decided to follow the recently saved cat to a nearby clearing, overlooking a decrepit structure. Basically, the perfect place to be attacked by another ogrekin. After watching the thing bloody one of the fighters…they run together after a while…I paralyzed our ambusher, hoping to end the fight and learn about our surroundings. And Kali and Tooth immediately used this opening to eviscerate him. I should really speak with Neth and Farfus before the two greenskins have too much influence on the party. Anyhoo, the ogrekin had some magical jewelry and potions, which we split up between us before heading to the building.
The structure looks terrible, with boarded windows and disturbing images carved into its pillars. I don’t think we should really be investigating this place when there’s pressing issues up at the fort, but it was getting dark and we couldn’t risk sleeping within striking distance of its inhabitants without checking, given the last few locals we’d encountered.
The front porch was ingeniously trapped, no one could have detected it. Luckily, the damage was light, and we stepped in. Place seems deserted, at least until the the elf fell through the floor into a spiked arena pit. Must remind Kali of home. And we killed a giant plant monster. It was gross.
500xp for Dirk, who’s a regular guy and not a dragon at all.
