Ah. A petrified garden. With statues. With wings. This is fine.
Of course, they come to life. Of course.
I close on one, and knock him from the air to the ground, and put him on his cold stone ass. Tylorre melts him. One down.
I turn to see a second one, flying off with Rokka! He’s out of my reach, but I’ll damned if I’ll the the kid fall to his death, so I position myself underneath him to catch him if he falls. Or, at least take the brunt of the damage if he just lands on me. Of course, this is exactly what happens.
And now that he’s more out of danger, what does he do? That’s right, he runs up to the flying statue thing, and attacks it. Damn
investment kid is going to get himself killed. I hit it and knock it down prone, and it gets finished off.
Tylorre immediately (and rightfully so) dresses down Rokka. Kid’s too squishy to be up front. I can only hope Tylorre ends up being a good mentor.
I take a moment to examine these “statues” and one things for goddamned sure: they are NOT hewn from stone.
We head to the closest door, and it’s locked – like that other unopenable door we’ve encountered here. So, we decide to go up the stairs to the North, and down a hallway I can hear this “Earth” cult chanting in Terran. Nope. I am reminded of that Earth priest in Kled, though. And, I am able to make out a name: Marlos Urnrayle – doesn’t ring a bell though.
Tylorre uses one of his glimmers and disguises himself as a guard – good thinking. We decide to go back and explore more of the area from before this garden. Behind one door, we discover 2 monks in a room that reeks, and they’re talking over a lot of bubbling noises. Ghirgaz and I decide to take them out, as quickly as we can.
Guess what? We do. Killed them dead all super-fast like. No alarm was raised. Following Tylorre’s lead, I don the monk clothes, a pair of stone bracers, and one of those gold masks – it’s made of stone with some intricate gold leaf.
We decide to take a breather in this foul but safe room, while we can.
After a bit, we peek through a door across the hall. Out of nowhere, I get attacked, shattering the stone mask! This woman is nobody to trifle with – she quickly injures me badly and kills Ghirgaz! NO!
In a rage, I swing and miss – butt it’s a false moss to lure her into attacking me. She does and I brutally riposte, connecting my maul to just behind her hear behind the safety of her stone mask. She crumples.
In the whirlwind of weapons and the killing of my friend, I hadn’t even noticed that other bad guys had come into the hall. Things are looking bad – another hit and I’ll join my friend in death.
All of a sudden, a robed man walks down the halls, felling this enemies with a mere gesture. He shoots a green bolt down the hallway, right into Ghirgaz who takes a shocked deep breath back to life! We make no offensive moves toward the mysterious man, but decide to follow him back to his room – the one with the impenetrable doors. On the way there, I remove a key from the body of our venerable foe.
This man is no ordinary man, but a lich! A very powerful lich named Renwick, it would seem. He seems to have no interest in us, or what we’re doing here. Thankfully.
Instead, he allows us to rest in this room so that we may continue through this monastery if we agree to rid him of the scourge that are these monks. I feel we have no choice but to agree. After all, he was able to makes the bodies of our foes disappear with a simple snap of his fingers.
