Vayu and Aakpesh eventually rejoin us at the Ratfolk village., and Aakpesh has his bag of smiler heads – while it is foul, it should curry favor with the ratfolk and solidify us as allies.
It isn’t long after their return that our party is reunited, and Redtooth and several of his Lieutenants have joined up: Claw, Fur, and Fang. I can see why these three rank highly with him – they are the largest ratfolk I have ever seen. Redtooth makes a loud an clear pronouncement: we’re friends and allies, and that we will go after the smilers, together. We can manage, however, to hear most of what he whispers to his LTs after that: “In no uncertain terms: kill my brother, bring me his tail, and bring his (can’t make it out)”
With our 3 large ratfolk allies, we head to the smiler stronghold to be greeted by a LASER CANNON! Ouch. A ratfolk tries to break through the door below the cannon, and instead of breaking the chain, rips the handle off a door!
Vayu and I climb up to remove and re-purpose the cannon. Not only are we unlucky in this attempt, but the area we’re standing on collapses. And while the turret landed on a very muscled and fur-covered body, it was beyond our repair skills.
Inside the doors, we encounter a human ogrekin. He does some damage to our party, but we are ultimately victorious. We don’t have long to savor the victory though – 4 smilers run in and attack us. The party dispatches 3 in the room, and we fire off a parting kill shot to the fourth that was running away, presumably to fetch reinforcement.
Now that we have a breather, we check out ogrekin. He’d been shot. A LOT. Perhaps he was used to calibrate the cannon out front? Poor creature, that is no life. His death would seem to be a kindness.
I peek down a side hallway – and WHAT IN THE NAME OF SARENRAE is that??? At the end of the hallway was a face – a red floating face! And just above the eyebrows, the head stopped – it had been cleanly removed! I sensed danger and ran, and by the time that my compatriots got there, it was gone! I don’t like that one bit.
We go down the hallway the smilers came from, and run across their living spaces. Who knew that smilers lived so nicely? There beds. Beds! From these rooms though, we are able to scavenge up 4 platinum and a few guns.
