After the death of that poor soul in the bar, the crew decides to further investigate the coordinates of the map gleaned from our initial encounter. We are currently shipless and cred-less. We head to the starport to attempt to secure a vessel.
The starport is crowded with exasperated travelers. Some, apparently, there for days. The long delays were due to dirak’s that had escaped their pen during transport. The owner of the escaped cargo had put a bounty on the 6 creatures of 300cr per head (if captured alive). Earlier hunter’s efforts to catch them have been tragically unsuccessful.
Needing the means to secure transport, our captain volunteers our services for a dirak hunt. We know they are vicious, cunning, and a bit intelligent (like all living creatures). They work in packs, and won’t back down from a fight.
Captain Silas, realizing the opportunity to capitalize on the frustration of the delayed merchants, decides it would be in our best interest to up the ante a bit. I am chosen to speak as representative of our crew.
By empathizing with the merchants, I was able to show them the path of compassion. They graciously offered us 1500cr in order to help fellow travelers in need as well as expedite the opening of the tarmac. We convince the star port officials to let us use one of their tarmac transports in the capture.
We strategize to lure them into their pen by shooting at them from the moving transport. Kitkat commands their attention early with a well placed shot into the cargo hold where the diraks were last spotted. I maneuver enough to get a couple of them to follow us. Two more join them. The diraks are quite agitated, and following us with determination.
Another dirak starts closing on us head on. I try to avoid collision, but manage to clip the Dirak. The transport rolls, and throws us from from its open air seats. Kavita runs toward the transport, and Kitkat stuns one of the diraks. Silas makes it to the transport, and I far step back into the driver’s seat. The diraks dust themselves off and continue their chase. I apply maximum pressure to the accelerator and head towards the waiting pen.
As we approach the pen the ground crew look ready to close the gates behind us. First door is closed, but one of the Diraks didn’t manage to make into the pen. Kitkat jumps out of the transport in a warrior’s fashion and excoriates the loose dirak. The crowd cheers, and we collect our creds: 2720cr total. More than enough to reach our destination. Today we are blessed.
We rent a suitable, compact shuttle. Tor plugs in the coordinates for the system. It’s not a normal route, but tor manages to plot us a course that will get us to where we need to go. The trip is 2 days long and uneventful.
As we get close the system we get a small ping on radar. Tor scans the object. It is a low energy source 60m long and 35m long. As we approach, we recognize it as a ship that is registered out of New Terran named The Redshift Rapture. We dock with the Rapture. Kitkat and Silas head toward the derelict ship via the airlock. With a hard link to the airlock console, Tor sends a 5V charge to the screen, activating its standby systems. With the console powered up Tor hacks the hatch’s unlock routine.
Silas and Kitkatt walk through the hatch and into the Rapture…
