After some quick searching, I’m able to find some schematics of the base model of the Redshift Rapture – in a convenient and searchable SpacePDF format! With this, I’m able to help guide Silas and Kit navigate through the ship to get her back online.
When they make it to main engineering, they find a body in the center of the room, laying face down. This (former) human took what looks like a blast in back. He still has a toolbelt, although most of the tools are missing. He also has a keycard and an identicard: Quyn Jett, Chief Engineer.
They keep making their way aft. Silas finds a lowered manual level and a keycard slot. He inserts the card and a red rings starts to glow, pulsing. He turns a key and the light goes solid green! Progress! So, he throws the switch. There’s a kachink and machines start warming up. A nearby display comes up, showing a diagram of the ship. The hyper-drive and a cargo bay door are red – damaged.
Still onboard the rental, iZac, Kavita, and I disconnect for the Redshift and iZac masterfully maneuvers to the cargo door. It’s pretty busted up (the bay doors are bent outward) and looks like a job for Kavita and I, but mostly Kavita. We need proper space suits, so we re-dock and have Silas hand over suits for us. I pass along the ship’s schematics to iZac to helm him align to the cargo bay, and I plug in my phin to the suit’s HUD to help me, too.
Kavita spacejumps across to the bay with ease, and after I take a deep breath (I dunno, just felt right), I jump across to cargo hold. After thankfully landing safely in the cargo bay (and not dying along in the cold vastness of space), we get to work. There are red lights on the door panels – looks like there’s damage to at least the hydraulics. There’s also scorch marks on the back wall – looks like someone was in a hurry to get out of here. Kavita looks around and finds manual override panel.
Working the lever, she gets the doors about a third of the way closed. I can’t really apply a sort of fix via computer – it’s mechanical/physical damage. It’s kinda hard to override bent metal. So, I help Kavita with the lever a bit, and we manage to get it closed more – it’s now just barely open. Unfortunately we can’t get it all way closed, so we develop a plan to close other bulkheads, leaving a partially decompressed ship. Still, better than nothing.
We jettison the corpses on board, and clean up a bit to help de-stench the ship. iZac meanwhile orbits a bit farther out, and Kavita and I decide to check the stasis tube that Kit and Silas had found. It’s a cryohibernation tube, and the readings are clearly ki’tik (insectiod), but not a standard dialect. It’s a large chamber, so it may hold a large body. It’s probable that this was the source of the faint power reading we’d picked up – probably has its own power supply.
Kit detects a small, fast, heavily armed ship coming towards us, from Finally. It’s about 20 hours out and traveling very fast. We re-dock and iZac joins us. We come up with a rough plan:
- I program the rental to return unmanned to Finally, but on a different course to see if the other ship course corrects to follow it.
- Use an engine burst on Redshift to get going on a different route from the rental, then power down everything but the sensors.
We execute, and see the incoming ship start to veer towards the rental! Huzzah! We decide to take the Redshift to the other port on Finally – the domed city of Halcyon.
We drift several hours, silent. They other ship’s about a day out from Finally. iZac calculates a new trajectory, and we start powering up ship. We make the trip in relatively short order – this ship is fast! Next thing we know, we’ve landed at Halcyon.
