In addition to Generalizing ( begeneraling? ) us, the Feathergale sends with us two knights. So we got that goin’ for us, which is nice.
When we arrive, it seems like half the town is afraid of us (or maybe just Feathergale in general?) while the other half seem to warmly-ish greet us. Not surprised, that’s how it is with power.
The town gathers around, and a knight makes his announcement. A number of us make speeches to try to speak to certain groups – mine is targeted at veterans.
Of the town, here are the 14 new members of the Junior Manticorps:
- 3 Guards (AC 16, HP 11, +3 to hit, spear 1d8+1)
- 2 Veterans (AC 17, HP 58, +5 to hit, sword 1d8+3)
- 3 Bandits (AC 12, HP 11, +3 to hit, (cross?)bow, 1d6+1)
Meat-ShieldsCommoners (AC 10, HP 9, +2 to hit, club 1d6)
We’re able to strike a deal, and make lots of cheap groceries for all. After loading everything and everyone up, we make our way as far as we can on the Sand Witch. We park the sled on the edge of some woods, and make the rest of the way on foot.
We make it to the temple remains, and come across the ruins of a large room – I believe this is the room where the Umbertaker™ was born! There’s plenty of debris and some felled columns to provide cover, which is good because GIANTS! We quickly splint into groups, and under cover of Rokka’s fog cloud we make quick work of them. I smear blood on my guy’s faces (Ace, Zap!, and Chief), even though they didn’t land a hit. Need to inspire courage with these guys.
We head back to that old black gate, which has been twisted open. Well, nowhere to go but down.
As we go down the stairways, as we descend, things feel more, uh, “dwarfy”. I don’t really know how to explain it. And, my face feels a bit itchy. Now that we’re about 300 ft. down, it’s getting a bit … cold? That’s weird. I mean, cold is weird since Athus is so damn hot. And yet … it feels right. Feels familiar somehow.
The stairs eventually end at a chasm spanned by a zig-zagged causeway. We hear the *whoosh* *whoosh* of leathery wings, and all of a sudden I’ve been grabbed by a gargoyle! Sumbitch picks me up, and just drops me into the chasm! Sooo not cool. Thankfully, it’s not one of those bottomless chasms, so the falling damage I take still hurts, but it’s that good kinda hurt in comparison. I guess.
Well, seems like someone up there hits that bastard or something, ’cause next thing I know he’s hit bottom, too. I take a quick swipe at him, but he flies off.
By the time I climb back up, things are pretty much all cleared up. Damn, I could use a drink – preferably something with booze AND medicine.
