Ting! is back, and I wonder where she/Jacques go when the other is awake. (mechanic: Russell rolls to check which persona is in control at the beginning of each session and after each sleep)
Before confronting the Lords, we decide to pay a visit and feed the nearby baby manticore. He doesn’t have a name, but I like Manuel.
We’ve got to options on how to deal with the Lords: wait for an invitation to the Arena, or just head there on our own. The latter has more of a feel of a power play to us, and perhaps they’ll be unprepared, giving us an advantage. On the way there, the scrapfolk give us a wide berth and we simply walk directly into arena. It’s not just a natural clearing – but has been purposely built – like a stadium. A vacant, empty, stadium. Good. On the West side, there’s what looks like a stage, reaching about 20ft above the ground. A viewing platform, perhaps? Whatever the purpose, we can sense activity underneath it.
A large female troll emerges. Helskarg. Needless to say, we all know what happens next. Vayu leaps up onto the platform, followed by Aakpesh. Well, more like Aakpesh tries to follow Vayu – he fails horribly. I help pick him up as much as I can (strength isn’t really my *puts on sunglasses* strong suit), but I can give him a bit of luck on his next try.
And I’m not sure if Preston is trying to confuse or Helskarg, because he yells at her saying shes attractive and then does this kind of sexy wink thing. She doesn’t seem impressed until he shoots her with his bow. She looks at Preston, and looks … intrigued? I guess that’s more her style of romance. Either way, it works – Ting! basically blows her up, knocking her off the stage. I guess it’s good that Aakpesh didn’t make it up – he closes on her smoldering body, and delivers a killing blow.
That … that was fast. I mean what, 12 seconds? (two rounds!) It’s a good thing we’re putting our skills to the common good.
Vayu picks up from her an auto grapnel. I examine it, and tell him how to work it. It’s a +1 exotic weapon (neg to roll without proficiency), and does 1d8 dam with a x3 on crits. It has a coil of 50ft of rope – it would be 100ft, but the spring is worn out. Perhaps Dinvaya could repair this? Seems like it would be right up her alley. Preston also finds a grey access card.
We all relocate to the top of the platform, and Ting! walks up to a window/screen, where suddenly a fiend appears. It says to us:
“Visitors. How unusual. Know apes, that you now stand in Hellion’s Domain. Kneel, or be punished.”
Vayu, Aakpeshm and I kneel, knowing it means nothing, but it quickly says “Then punishment it is.” and a burst of unholy radiation (unholy blight) comes from the window/screen by Ting! With Sarenrae’s Grace, I’m able to resist the effects, but not completely. Ouch. (1/2dam = 16hp)
We quickly heal up, and go to the doors ahead of us on the platform. The fiend’s face shoes up in other screen, which Aakpesh naturally does not like. So, Aakpesh destroys the screen. And then also the other one. We hold the grey keycard close to the doors, and they open.
We’re hit with a color burst (chaos hammer), and we notice that there are more screens inside, and one of them has the fiend in it, and it seems to be watching us – to see how we react?
Well, we react quickly – there are two (beasts) that are taken care of while I rest in the safety of a stairway. We smash up the screens in there, and I believe Preston destroys one with not blunt force but electricity. We decide to head down the stairway.
