We descend to the level below below, and it’s another locked door that responds to the keycard.
The room on the other side of the door predictably has many screens. Aakpesh, well, Aakpesh does something that I can only call Rage Against the Machine (Chris got us good on that one).
Just when Vayu and I think we see something out of the corner of our eye, *Roll for Initiative, they have surprise round*
*pop poppop poppop poppopop pop* Seven cultists of Hellion appear, and one large one – a cleric of Hellion named Nalakai. And speak of the devil – Hellion appears in one of the monitors and throws a spell at us, but thanks to the Grace of Sarenrae, I am spared from the worst of the effects.
A short appearance in the monitor and a spell doesn’t seem to be enough for Hellion though, and he materializes on a circular platform. After grandstanding a bit (as “gods” are wont to do), he leaves and we finish off his underlings. With Nalakai vanquished, we have rid this land of 3 of the 7 Lords of Rust.
I attend to Preston’s wounds as 10Lo inspects the platform that “summoned” Hellion. It turns out that it’s some sort of holographic projector – but far more powerful. Most can only do a static image for a short period of time, and this was not only to do movement, but sound. And olfactory – we smelled brimstone!
After searching Nalakai and the cultists (and destroying the remaining monitors), we find an unholy symbol that looks like a sort of claw, a grey access card, 21 silverdiscs, some armor (magical!), a +1 spiked gauntlet, and a Scroll of Unholy Blight – a spell Hellion has used against us. The gauntlets go to Preston, and I ask Aakpesh to destroy the unholy symbol – the mere existence of it is a slight unto Sarenrae.
With things calm, Vayu and I return to whatever it was that caught our eye earlier, and it turns out to be a secret door. We go through it and down a curved hallway that leads us to two machines with saws for “hands” that seem to have quite a reach. They don’t last long.
